Christ the Redeemer
Christ the Redeemer is one of the most iconic monuments in the world and a symbol of faith, peace, and welcome. Located at the top of Corcovado Mountain in Tijuca National Park, Rio de Janeiro, the statue stands 38 meters tall, including its pedestal, and weighs 1,145 tons. It was inaugurated on October 12, 1931, after five years of construction, and has been recognized as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World since 2007.
The statue was designed by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa and sculpted in collaboration with French artist Paul Landowski. Made of reinforced concrete and covered with soapstone, the monument offers stunning panoramic views of the city, including Guanabara Bay, Sugarloaf Mountain, Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, as well as the Tijuca Forest.
